i was at the delhi airport taking a flight to bombay and suddenly an announcement comes that flight is delayed by another 30 minutes. i was exasperated, not in a mood to start my lappi, bored of the book i was reading . So i just sat back and was noticing people around, just being inquisitive of what others are doing, i see a few of them glued on to their lappi, some hung up on their i-pod, some on their mobile, some gobbling up snacks and sipping coffe and many just sitting hopelessly like me staring at others. Although at some airports there are swanky shopping outlets offering aspirational brands which may cost more than the airline ticket. i was so engrossed noticing all that i forgot i had a flight to catch in 30 minutes and i realized my name was being blared out to get onboard, i rushed to the gate and got a bemused welcome from the airline staff.
i setteled into the cramped seat of "spicejet" and exchanged smiles with hostess. Since its a no frills airline, i knew i wont be disturbed any further neither am i goin to disturb them, cozz the frills they add is not worth the money. i went back into my thinking mode, started again thinking about the people at the airport, what about the most of the people who had nothing to do or pretending to be busy?? can they do anything the airport which is inexpensive, fun, engrossing. I gave it a lot of though how can there "need of overcoming the boredom" can be served. Can they be given small cross word, small comics, something which everyone likes to do and can do for 15-20 minutes, something innocuous, i gave it a lot of though and by that time a had reached mumbai. i again exchanged a smile with the airhostess wanted to exchange phone numbers but cudnt do, but still that thought of fulfilling the need still resounds in my mind, but have no definite answer or so called "sollution", what do u think i is there an opportunity for the advertisers, marketers which is untapped or some entrepreneurial idea. think think......., nd do let me know if u have something boiling in ur mind

Nice one...the article actually forces one to think! however i think there is no need to think about any 'idea ' for people to fight their boredom at airports, coz these days life for everyone moves at a very fast pace and they don't have any time for themselves. So in a way if they sit idle at the airport they would be forced to dwell on wats goin on in their lives ( or maybe about life in general). An individual needs to reconnect with himself and his privicy must not always be encroached upon by marketing gimmicks.
(Sorry , man ..this comment was not to give u an entreprenuerial idea , but just a perception about a highly stressed individual)
Needless to say..the thought expressed in the article is very good:)..keep it up!!!
Thanks for putting in a new perspective of connecting with self, but do u really feel people at the airport are trying to dwell about their personal life or just waiting fretting for the flight delay or why did they turn up so early
well...did u fret ? My point was that wat cant be cured has to be endured....neway maybe wat i wrote would never be understood..coz thats something people never do and i know they wont ever bother..mayb only 1 in a 1000 like me would. :)
well before I comment I like your thoughtful approach while travelling ..
Coming down to your thought, I think we have a marketing space here. Being in Europe for past 1 month I have seen people fidgeting with their i-Phone at almost all such daily pit stops - metro, bus, airport, break, etc..
iPhone is perhaps a boon for all marketers like us. It gives you the power to reach directly in customers palm. So a simple solution could be "Time Pass Games" over Bluetooth, 3G. It would be only designed to be played for 5 mins to 10 mins. User can be just like googlers who allow us to get sponsors.
Its just an idea. Something like this is common in Malls in India but I have till now not come across somthing which is over 3G for mobile. Perhaps this can be a solution.
